The organization's meat department is a critical part of its operations, playing a vital role in providing a range of fresh meat products that meet government and corporate safety and quality standards. The company emphasizes compliance with regulations and exceptional merchandising to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty. As a part of its team, the company fosters a collaborative and responsible work culture that values development, safety, and efficiency.
The Meat Manager position is a key supervisory role responsible for overseeing all activities within the meat department, including product receipt, storage, stocking, labeling, and presentation. Reporting directly to the Assistant Branch Manager or Branch Manager, this position is hourly paid and non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Meat Manager ensures that freezers, refrigerators, and aisles are well-stocked, clean, organized, and compliant with HACCP and other regulatory guidelines. This role involves supervising meat department staff, including Assistant Meat Manager(s), Meat Supervisors, and Stockers, ensuring that the department operates in line with company standards. The Meat Manager manages schedules, monitors employee performance, conducts training sessions, and participates in hiring and disciplinary processes.
In addition, the role requires close coordination with inventory controllers and vendors to maintain accurate inventory, prevent spoilage, and ensure competitive pricing. The Meat Manager also oversees equipment maintenance and facilitates the use of specialized equipment, such as Toledo scales and Dennison label machines, by all department employees. A strong emphasis is placed on visual merchandising strategies, including signage accuracy, promotional flyers, and impulse area setups to drive sales. The Meat Manager conducts weekly self-audits and performs periodic HACCP audits to maintain department integrity and cleanliness. This position demands a commitment to excellent customer service, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage a team effectively in a dynamic retail environment.
Physical requirements for this role include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, frequently lift 50 pounds or less, and routinely perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing. The candidate must be comfortable working in cold and freezing temperatures typical of meat storage and processing areas and be aware of safety around operational equipment like forklifts and electric pallet jacks. This role provides an opportunity for the candidate to engage in a comprehensive management experience within a retail meat department, emphasizing leadership, quality control, customer relations, and operational excellence.
