Job Description
La Montanita Food Cooperative is a well-established food cooperative dedicated to providing high-quality, fresh, and locally sourced products to its community. As a cooperative, it emphasizes shared values of community involvement, sustainability, and ethical business practices along with a commitment to superior customer service. La Montanita operates various departments including a deli that offers a variety of fresh, prepared foods and grocery items, aiming to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for customers, while supporting local producers and sustainable agriculture practices.
The role of Kitchen Manager within La Montanita Food Cooperative’s Deli department is essential for maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of deli functions. This position acts under the direct supervision of the Deli Department Team Leader and is responsible for overseeing daily operations in their absence. The Kitchen Manager ensures that all activities within the deli align with the cooperative’s standards for quality, service, and safety.
As Kitchen Manager, the individual is responsible for delivering an excellent customer experience in the deli area. This involves knowledge of all deli products and supporting customers in making product selections that meet their needs. The role includes supervising deli team members, facilitating their performance and growth through motivation, training, and constructive feedback. The Kitchen Manager actively supports company policies regarding labor budgets, sales goals, product freshness, and food safety guidelines.
Beyond staff management, the Kitchen Manager orders, receives, and merchandises products while ensuring compliance with sanitation and pricing standards. They play a critical role in enforcing federally mandated food safety regulations, maintaining ServSafe certification, and promoting a secure workplace environment. This leadership position contributes to team-building initiatives and maintains a high standard for customer service that reflects the cooperative’s ethical values and community-centered mission.
The role demands strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment. With responsibilities ranging from inventory counts to training new employees, the Kitchen Manager is a linchpin in maintaining the operational excellence of the deli department. This position offers opportunities to develop skills in management, food merchandising, and customer relations while working within an organization committed to sustainability and community wellness.
