The Full-Time Deli Cook position at the Maumee, OH location offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about food and customer service to join a reputable and family-oriented company. This role is integral to the daily operations of the deli department and requires someone who takes pride in preparing high-quality deli products and providing excellent customer experiences. The typical work schedule for this role consists of four weekdays and one weekend day from 8 AM to 4 PM, ensuring balance and consistency for the employee. Starting pay is $16+ per hour, depending on experience, highlighting the company’s respect for skill and expertise.

As a Deli Cook at Walt Churchill's Market, you will be responsible for supporting the deli counter with product preparation, assisting customers both in-person and over the phone, and maintaining stringent food safety and sanitation standards. The role demands proficiency in preparing cold salads, dips, grab-and-go items, and soups, as well as operating deli equipment safely and effectively. You will be tasked with packaging, pricing, and merchandising products while ensuring stock is rotated correctly using the first in, first out (FIFO) method to maintain freshness. Additionally, the Deli Cook may take on responsibilities for training new deli clerks and may serve in a shift leadership capacity when managers are absent, supporting team coordination and workflow management.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • minimum of 2 years cooking or kitchen experience
  • high school education
  • ability to communicate clearly
  • comfortable working with the public and assisting customers
  • attention to detail
  • ServSafe Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain one
  • ability to stand, walk, twist, lift, bend, and reach for prolonged periods
  • occasional pushing, pulling, and squatting
  • able to frequently lift 10-30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide outstanding customer service by greeting customers promptly, answering questions, and assisting with purchases
  • package, wrap, price, and merchandise deli department products
  • maintain strong product knowledge of deli items including cold salads, dips, lunchmeats, cheeses, and prepared foods
  • properly date all items, check expiration dates, ensure freshness, and rotate stock (FIFO)
  • maintain sanitation, food safety, and food storage standards in accordance with company policies and health department regulations
  • perform cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, surface sanitation, and washing dishes
  • prepare cold salads, dips, grab-and-go items and soups
  • safely and effectively operate deli equipment such as slicers, steamers, fryers, rotisserie ovens, combi-ovens, smokers, and knives
  • put away stock in coolers, freezers, and dry storage while rotating product and maintaining organized storage areas
  • obtain and/or maintain ServSafe Food Safety Certification
  • train and support new Deli Clerks as assigned
  • serve as Shift Lead in the absence of a manager, including case setup, setting production lists, and ensuring team members remain on task
