The Full-Time Deli Cook position at Walt Churchill's Market, located in Maumee, OH, offers passionate individuals the opportunity to work in a dynamic food service environment that values quality, care, and safety. This role involves providing outstanding customer service, supporting daily deli operations, and ensuring that all food preparation and handling meet stringent food safety standards. From greeting customers and assisting with purchases to preparing deli products such as cold salads, dips, and soups, the Deli Cook is instrumental in maintaining the high standards customers expect. The role demands a flexible schedule including evening and weekend shifts, typically four weekdays and one weekend day from 8 AM to 4 PM. Starting compensation is $16 per hour plus, based on experience, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding skilled and dedicated personnel.
Those hired will have responsibilities that include operating deli equipment safely and efficiently, maintaining sanitation and food safety standards, rotating and organizing stock for freshness, and assisting with the training of new staff. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Minimum of 2 years of cooking or kitchen experience
- High school education
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
- Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain one
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, and reaching
- Occasional instances of pushing, pulling, and squatting
- Must be able to frequently lift 10-30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
Job Qualifications
- High school education
- Minimum of 2 years of cooking or kitchen experience
- Prior deli or food service experience preferred
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain one
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
- Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
Job Duties
- Provide outstanding customer service by greeting customers promptly, answering questions, and assisting with purchases
- Package, wrap, price, and merchandise Deli Department products
- Maintain strong product knowledge of deli items including cold salads, dips, lunchmeats, cheeses, and prepared foods
- Properly date all items, check expiration dates, ensure freshness, and rotate stock (FIFO)
- Maintain sanitation, food safety, and food storage standards in accordance with company policies and health department regulations
- Perform cleaning duties including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, surface sanitation, and washing dishes
- Prepare cold salads, dips, grab-and-go items and soups
- Safely and effectively operate deli equipment such as slicers, steamers, fryers, rotisserie ovens, combi-ovens, smokers, and knives
- Put away stock in coolers, freezers, and dry storage while rotating product and maintaining organized storage areas
- Obtain and/or maintain ServSafe Food Safety Certification
- Train and support new Deli Clerks as assigned
- Serve as Shift Lead in the absence of a manager, including case setup, setting production lists, and ensuring team members remain on task
