Job Description
Kowalski Companies is a family-owned civic business that has proudly served the St. Paul community since 1983. Established by Jim and Mary Kowalski, the company began with its first location on Grand Ave. Over the decades, Kowalski Companies has earned a reputation not only for exceptional customer service but also for its commitment to sustainability and community values. Being a civic business means that Kowalski prioritizes ethical practices, environmental stewardship, and supporting the well-being of its customers and employees alike. The company’s dedication to these principles has made it a trusted name in the local food retail industry, offering high-quality products and a pleasant shopping experience at its locations.
This role is for a Deli Chef at Kowalski Companies, a vital position responsible for maintaining and preparing several key food stations including the hot foods case, pasta bar, burrito bar, wing bar, and rotisserie chickens. The Deli Chef must strictly follow established Kowalski procedures to ensure the preparation, handling, sanitation, freshness, and overall quality of all food items. These standards are essential not only to meet customer expectations but also to comply with health and safety regulations. An important aspect of the role involves excellent time management skills to handle busy periods effectively, particularly during lunch and dinner rushes. A successful candidate will need to communicate efficiently with team members to keep all deli areas properly stocked and ready for customers, ensuring an attractive, well-organized, and fresh food display.
The Deli Chef must be vigilant in adhering to strict health and safety guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, and foodborne illnesses. This attention to detail safeguards both the customer experience and the integrity of the food service environment. The position offers flexible scheduling, requiring availability primarily for the 12pm to 8pm shift with additional flexibility to work morning or mid-day shifts as needed. Open availability, including weekends and holidays, is important to support the dynamic needs of the deli operation. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are interested in food preparation, have a passion for delivering excellent service, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
The pay range for this position is based on experience, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding skill and dedication. Joining Kowalski Companies means becoming part of a proud tradition that values community involvement, employee growth, and sustainability. Moreover, this position is part of the UFCW Local 1189 Union, which provides additional benefits such as guaranteed raises, ancillary benefits, employee assistance programs, and educational scholarship opportunities. Candidates who join Kowalski Companies not only contribute to a respected local business but also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both their professional and personal lives.
