Job Description
Military Deli & Bakery Services (MDBS) is a dedicated food service company that provides fresh and quality deli and bakery products to the United States Military Commissaries across the nation. With a presence in 103 commissary locations across 32 states, MDBS serves military personnel and their families, striving to offer superior customer service and a passion for food. The company emphasizes a vibrant workplace culture, characterized by teamwork, growth opportunities, and a commitment to safety and sanitation standards. MDBS is proud of its tradition of promoting from within, offering employees the chance to advance their careers locally or by relocating to different commissary locations nationwide without losing seniority. MDBS is not a government job but a private company that values diversity and inclusion, actively recruiting everyone, including veterans and individuals with disabilities, as an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
The full-time Shift Lead role at Military Deli & Bakery Services is a hands-on leadership position crucial to the day-to-day operations of the deli and bakery departments within the commissaries. The Shift Lead reports to the Deli/Bakery Manager and is responsible for supervising a team of 5 to 10 employees, ensuring high levels of customer service while meeting profit goals and compliance with commissary and company standards. The position demands active participation in managing food safety and sanitation protocols, employee scheduling and training, inventory control including ordering supplies, and maintaining an organized and clean work environment. The Shift Lead also acts as a liaison with commissary management to achieve financial objectives and enhance customer satisfaction by identifying areas for improvement. This role requires the ability to handle physical demands such as standing throughout the shift and lifting up to 50 pounds, and flexibility to work weekends and closing shifts. Candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a Food Safety Management Certification within 30 days of hire.
This role provides competitive pay benefits including paid time off, holiday pay, sick pay, and a comprehensive health insurance package covering medical, dental, vision, prescriptions, life, and disability insurance. The company also offers a 401k plan and supports career advancement opportunities. Ideal candidates will have prior leadership experience in grocery or food service environments, coupled with a commitment to excellent customer service and team morale. Joining MDBS means becoming part of a community that honors and supports the military and their families through quality service and a passionate team environment.
