With a presence at numerous commissaries nationwide, MDBS blends the values of community service and quality retail operations, making it a unique place to work that combines business growth with service to those who serve the nation.
The Assistant Manager position at MDBS’s deli and bakery departments is a vital hands-on leadership role. This role involves assisting the Deli/Bakery Manager in directing daily operations, supervising 5-10 employees, and maintaining high standards of customer service in a fast-paced environment. As an assistant manager, the individual will help oversee the department’s food safety and sanitation policies, inventory management, staff scheduling, and training. The role demands excellent organizational skills to manage weekly inventory reports and calculate monthly profits according to company policy. Furthermore, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for fostering a positive work atmosphere by encouraging teamwork and maintaining employee morale.
This role is not a government job and welcomes candidates from all backgrounds who have a passion for management in the grocery or food service industries. The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and closing shifts, is essential to meet operational demands. Additionally, the position requires the individual to be physically capable of standing or walking for the duration of their shifts and lifting up to 50 pounds as necessary with or without accommodation. Candidates must either hold a valid Food Safety Management Certification or be ready to obtain one within 30 days of hire, underscoring the commitment to safety standards. MDBS also promotes career growth, offering employees opportunities to advance from associate roles to field and corporate management across their vast network of commissary locations spread across 32 states, making relocation a smooth and seniority-preserving transition.
Compensation includes competitive pay, paid time off with vacation and sick leave, holiday pay for more than ten holidays per year, and a comprehensive benefits package featuring 401k retirement plans and excellent health insurance covering medical, dental, vision, prescriptions, alongside life and disability coverage. The company values diversity and inclusion, committed to equal employment opportunity and supporting veterans and individuals with disabilities.
