Job Description

Military Deli & Bakery Services (MDBS) is a distinguished food service provider operating within the unique environment of 103 U.S. Military Commissary locations across 32 states. The role of Assistant Manager, also referred to as Shift Lead, at MDBS is a pivotal position designed to support the Deli/Bakery Manager by providing leadership and operational management within the department. This role demands an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and possesses the ability to direct a team of 5 to 10 employees effectively. The Assistant Manager is entrusted with crucial responsibilities that include maintaining high standards of customer service, enforcing food safety and sanitation policies, and optimizing department operations for profitability.

An ideal candidate is expected to manage inventories by analyzing weekly reports, ordering necessary supplies, and preparing profit calculations in line with company expectations. Scheduling, training of new employees, and the delegation of work assignments are essential duties, ensuring that the team is well-equipped and motivated. Job Requirements

  • 2+ years grocery or 2+ years food service experience
  • Previous shift lead/management experience mandatory
  • Ability to stand and walk short distances for an entire shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation
  • Open availability, must be able to work some weekends and closing shifts
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a valid Food Safety Management Certification or be able to obtain one within 30 days from the hire date

Job Duties

  • Assist Deli/Bakery Manager in providing leadership in the department by directing and managing 5-10 employees
  • Maintain high levels of customer service while meeting commissary requirements and maximizing profits
  • Oversee and enforce food safety and sanitation policies and procedures
  • Help to manage inventories by tracking weekly reports and ordering raw materials and supplies
  • Assist in scheduling and training employees and delegating work assignments
  • Prepare, maintain, and track records concerning inventories and work processes to calculate monthly profit according to company policy
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment to ensure health and safety requirements are met
