The role of Assistant Manager/Shift Lead at Military Deli & Bakery Services is a hands-on leadership position focused on supporting the Deli/Bakery Manager in overseeing daily operations at one of the commissary locations. This role involves managing a team of 5-10 employees, ensuring that all food safety and sanitation policies are strictly followed, while simultaneously providing excellent customer service and meeting the financial goals of the department. The Assistant Manager is responsible for driving team performance, enhancing operational efficiency, maintaining inventory accuracy, and fostering a positive work environment.
This position requires involvement in scheduling, training, and delegating tasks, ensuring that all employees are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively. Additionally, the Assistant Manager actively monitors customer satisfaction and collaborates with commissary management to develop solutions for any identified issues. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two years of experience in grocery or food service
- Previous shift lead or management experience
- Physical ability to stand and walk for entire shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Availability to work weekends and closing shifts
- Commitment to working in a fast-paced environment
- Food Safety Management Certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days
Job Qualifications
- Two or more years of grocery or food service experience
- Previous shift lead or management experience mandatory
- Ability to stand and walk short distances for an entire shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation
- Open availability including some weekends and closing shifts
- Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
- Valid Food Safety Management Certification or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
Job Duties
- Assist Deli/Bakery Manager in directing and managing employees
- Maintain high levels of customer service while meeting commissary requirements and maximizing profits
- Oversee and enforce food safety and sanitation policies
- Manage inventories by tracking reports and ordering supplies
- Assist in scheduling and training employees and delegating work assignments
- Prepare and track records concerning inventories and monthly profit calculations
- Maintain a safe and clean environment to meet health and safety regulations
- Develop and maintain professional communication with commissary management
- Monitor customer satisfaction and assist in developing improvement processes
- Maintain accurate department records
- Monitor employee morale and promote a positive teamwork environment
- Perform staff duties as required
