The role of Assistant Manager/Shift Lead at Military Deli & Bakery Services is a dynamic and hands-on leadership position requiring the ability to manage and motivate a team of 5-10 employees within deli and bakery departments. This position demands a candidate who can ensure high levels of customer service while managing operational efficiency to meet commissary standards and maximize profitability. The Assistant Manager assists the Deli/Bakery Manager in overseeing daily operations, maintaining food safety standards, managing inventories, scheduling and training staff, and fostering positive communication and teamwork. A key aspect of this role involves monitoring customer satisfaction and employee morale, addressing areas for improvement and supporting the development of improved processes and procedures. The Assistant Manager also plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate documentation related to departmental activities and financial performance.

This full-time position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexible availability, including some weekends and closing shifts. Applicants must demonstrate experience in grocery or food service, prior management or shift lead experience, and physical capability to stand and walk throughout shifts and lift up to 50 pounds. Certification in Food Safety Management is mandatory or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Job Duties

  • Assist deli/bakery manager in providing leadership by directing and managing 5-10 employees
  • Maintain high levels of customer service while meeting commissary requirements and maximizing profits
  • Oversee and enforce food safety and sanitation policies and procedures
  • Help manage inventories by tracking weekly reports and ordering raw materials and supplies
  • Assist in scheduling and training employees and delegating work assignments
  • Prepare, maintain, and track records concerning inventories and work processes to calculate monthly profit according to company policy
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment to ensure health and safety requirements are met
