Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under the Performance Food Group (PFG) umbrella, plays a vital role in the foodservice industry by maintaining strong and unique relationships with a diverse clientele. These include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. PFG employs a team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who work collaboratively to support customers in improving their operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. This supportive approach allows Performance Foodservice to not only deliver high-quality food products but also to help independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators achieve their business goals and dreams.\n\nPerformance Foodservice stands out for its commitment to quality, safety, and customer service, delivering essential food products efficiently while fostering a culture of teamwork, respect, and recognition. The company supports its employees with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness plans, an employee stock purchase program, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The organization provides a safe and inclusive work environment that encourages growth and development.\n\nThe role of Driver, Dedicated Backhaul is crucial within this supply chain framework. This position involves operating tractor-trailer combinations (day cabs or sleeper cabs), tandem trailers, and/or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes. The driver handles logistics loads, as well as various food and non-food product deliveries, ensuring all products arrive safely and punctually in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers act as the face of the company, building lasting relationships with customers while communicating professionally with vendors and coworkers to ensure smooth operations.\n\nKey responsibilities include driving assigned routes to suppliers, vendors, or PFG warehouse locations according to predetermined schedules that may vary between local deliveries and over-the-road assignments requiring layovers. The driver also manages the backhaul process by delivering loads back to PFG warehouses, ensuring accurate and timely pickup, verification of product counts, and completion of paperwork associated with load inspections, invoices, and quality checks. Communication with supervisors regarding route confirmation, scheduling changes, and any issues during deliveries is essential. Additionally, the role requires securing equipment and completing necessary documentation at the end of each shift.\n\nOverall, this position demands reliability, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards. Performance Foodservice offers a positive work environment with opportunities for advancement, competitive compensation averaging an annual salary of approximately $93,000, and a Monday through Friday schedule with varying dispatch times. The Driver, Dedicated Backhaul role is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals seeking to contribute significantly to America’s food distribution network while receiving strong company support and benefits.
