Job Description
Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) is a renowned grocery retailer headquartered in Tyler, Texas, operating over 215 stores across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. The company proudly manages five distinct banners: Brookshire's Grocery Company, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, Fresh by Brookshire's, and Reasor's. With a commitment to fostering a community-driven approach rather than just focusing on business, BGC is dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace where employees can thrive and grow in their careers. BGC’s culture emphasizes not only professional growth but also personal wellbeing, offering comprehensive benefits and a community-centric environment. BGC values every partner's contributions and strives to provide unlimited opportunities for advancement, whether employees are just starting their journey or looking to elevate their careers.
The role at BGC centers on creativity and technical expertise in the bakery department, specifically focusing on planning and decorating bakery products. This role involves assisting with day-to-day bakery operations and ensuring excellent customer service. The primary responsibilities include preparing, icing, and decorating cakes and other baked goods either for display or customer orders. With a strong emphasis on artistic skill, the decorator will trace and copy drawings onto cakes and creatively blend icing colors to achieve appealing designs. They will select appropriate decorating materials and tools to fulfill custom orders while working efficiently under time constraints.
Besides creative tasks, the role requires maintaining cleanliness and safety by adhering to company safety and sanitation procedures. The decorator will also play a vital role in promoting product sales through suggestive selling initiatives. BGC expects this position to stay updated on current cake decorating trends, scheduling production in alignment with store promotions, seasonal events, and community occasions. This position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, artistic, and passionate about baking and customer service. It offers an engaging work environment within a respected company that prioritizes employee health, flexibility, ownership through its 401(k) plan, discounts, scholarship opportunities, and access to outdoor recreational facilities.
This bakery decorator position requires candidates to be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, and have six months of related experience preferred. Essential certifications include a Food Handler certificate, while decorator certification is considered desirable. Employees must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and operate or clean motorized equipment if required. The physical demands include abilities such as standing, walking, fine finger movements, lifting objects up to 75 pounds, and maintaining alertness to workplace hazards.
Joining BGC means becoming part of a company that values your contributions, supports your career development, and fosters a safe, drug and alcohol-free workplace. BGC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion, making employment decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, military status, or any other protected characteristic. At BGC, you are not just starting a job—you are beginning a career where you truly belong.
