The role of Cake Decorator is pivotal to maintaining the company’s reputation for quality and customer satisfaction. The primary responsibility involves assembling and decorating various cake products in accordance with specified designs and high standards. The decorator works as part of a finishing line team, which includes roles such as dumper, platter, spreader, icer, borderer, fixing, crumbers, budder/leafer, lidder, and packer. The position requires proficiency in using specific tools and techniques to apply controlled portions of icing, filling, and garnishes on cakes. Employees in the decorator role must understand product specifications thoroughly and adjust decorating processes accordingly to ensure each finished product meets company standards.

Moreover, the position involves operating and making minor adjustments to automatic icing and packaging equipment, inspecting packaging materials, and ensuring that finished products are uniform and meet quality criteria. This job demands adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety standards, and company policies, which are crucial elements in managing food safety risks and maintaining workplace safety standards. Employees are expected to actively participate in maintaining a clean and orderly work environment during downtime, shift changes, and at shift end. Working in this role requires physical stamina and manual dexterity as employees will perform repetitive motions, stand for full shifts, and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Push and pull tasks involving wheeled bowls weighing over 750 pounds are also required. Job Duties

  • Work and act safely in accordance with all policies
  • report safety hazards to people or product and comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices
  • supply cake product to line and apply controlled ingredient portions of icing, filling, or garnishes with specified tools as per product specifications and decorating techniques
  • understand product specification sheets and adjust tools and techniques to finish products with minimal supervision in various assembly stages
  • follow Good Manufacturing Practices by adhering to company policy and maintaining clean work areas and equipment
  • operate and make minor adjustments to automatic icing equipment
  • operate and make minor adjustments to automatic packaging equipment
  • monitor equipment performance and report damaged or faulty equipment
  • inspect packaging materials for uniformity and complete packaging according to specifications
  • inspect finished product for uniformity and reject products out of specification
  • perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor including rotating through finishing line positions
  • keep area clean during downtime, changeovers and at end of shift
  • comply with all food safety requirements, training, policies, and procedures
  • ensure the food safety of all products
  • perform other job-related duties as assigned
