The Store Team Member position at Michaels in Appleton, WI, is an integral role within this vibrant retail environment. This role focuses on delivering friendly, knowledgeable customer service while assisting customers in finding products, offering solutions, and ensuring a fast and efficient checkout experience. Team Members are responsible for maintaining excellent store recovery standards, participating in merchandise stocking, truck unloading, and organizing the sales floor in alignment with brand promises. This position plays a crucial part in supporting the omni-channel experience by facilitating processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), ensuring customers receive seamless service across all shopping methods.

In this role, Team Members will also engage customers in the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card enrollments, provide education about the Voice of Customer (VOC) survey, and uphold company policies related to safety, shrink management, and standard operating procedures. A key component of the job includes cross-training in Custom Framing selling and production, enhancing the ability to support specialized customer requests. The position requires physical stamina to stand for long periods, perform regular lifting and bending, and safely handle merchandise using ladders or similar equipment. Working hours may vary and include nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the dynamic nature of retail operations.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years old
  • retail and/or customer service experience preferred
  • ability to remain standing for long periods
  • ability to move throughout the store
  • regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching
  • ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using ladders or similar equipment
  • ability to work nights, weekends, and early mornings
  • must comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements of the job

Job Qualifications

  • Retail and/or customer service experience preferred
  • ability to interact positively and respectfully with customers and team members

  • basic understanding of merchandise stocking and planogram standards

Job Duties

  • Help customers shop, locate products, and provide them with solutions
  • provide a fast and friendly checkout experience
  • execute cash handling to standards
  • engage customers on the benefits of the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments
  • educate customers on the Voice of Customer (VOC) survey
  • assist with omni channel processes, including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS)
  • participate in the truck unload, stocking, and planogram (POGs) processes
  • complete merchandise recovery and maintenance including the merchandise return/go back process and general store recovery
  • perform Store In Stock Optimization (SISO) and AD set duties as assigned
  • support shrink and safety programs
  • adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company programs
  • interact with others respectfully and positively
  • cross train in Custom Framing selling and production
  • perform other duties as assigned
