The Cook position at Discovery Management Group is vital in supporting the health and happiness of senior residents through excellent culinary service. Located at 6870 Alister Way, Fort Myers, FL 33912, this full-time role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $17.00 to $18.00. The Cook on our team will be responsible for preparing a diverse menu featuring hot and cold dishes, working efficiently on various kitchen stations such as the grill, sauté, salad bar, and service line. Following standardized recipes is crucial to maintaining consistency in taste, portioning, and presentation, all while ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are met. The Cook contributes not only to the physical nourishment of residents but also enriches their dining experience to feel comfortable and homelike.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous cooking experience preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation standards
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions carefully
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items as needed
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules including days, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to pass background screening and comply with state and federal employment regulations
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in senior living or a similar environment preferred
  • Knowledge of production methods, portion control, and food safety/handling required
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with a team
  • High attention to detail especially in presentation and plating
  • Availability to work weekends as part of the regular schedule

Job Duties

  • Prepare a variety of hot and cold menu items including work on the grill, sauté station, salad bar, and service line
  • Follow standardized recipes to ensure proper preparation, portioning, taste, and presentation of food
  • Taste and check food for quality, palatability, and adherence to culinary standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all food preparation and service areas
  • Support a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment in accordance with food safety and handling guidelines including maintaining temperature logs, overseeing food storage and date maintenance
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create an exceptional dining experience for residents
  • Perform other duties as assigned
