Day Porters are responsible for a wide variety of daily maintenance tasks that contribute to the overall appeal and functionality of buildings. They ensure that common areas such as lobbies, stairwells, elevators, and entrances are kept clean, welcoming, and safe for tenants, visitors, and employees alike. This is achieved through a meticulous routine of cleaning, inspecting, and reporting issues as they arise throughout the day. The position demands attention to detail, reliability, and excellent organizational skills.\n\nSpecific responsibilities for the Day Porter include spot cleaning lobby glass doors, polishing chrome on lobby doors, vacuuming and wiping elevator cabs twice a day, inspecting the building exterior to pick up trash, cleaning ashtrays and sand urns, emptying exterior trash receptacles, and regularly checking restrooms. The Day Porter also sweeps stairwells and landings, removes debris from landscaped areas, cleans and polishes various surfaces, and diligently reports maintenance issues such as burnt-out lights or unauthorized solicitors to the management office. Assistance to the building engineer and adherence to safety protocols are also key components of the role.\n\nThis position offers a dynamic work environment where employees occasionally encounter moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and moderate noise levels. Job Duties
- Spot clean the lobby glass doors
- Polish chrome on lobby doors
- Vacuum elevator cabs and wipe cab doors, walls, and tops twice a day
- Inspect the building exterior and pick up any trash
- Clean ashtrays and sand urns on every floor
- Empty and clean exterior trash receptacles
- Check restrooms twice daily
- Vacuum lobby once a day or as needed
- Sweep stairwells and landings as needed
- Remove all debris from landscaped areas as needed
- Sweep building entrances
- Clean and remove smudges and marks on walls, doors, and wall covering
- Report any lights out (exit, directory boards, etc.) to the Management Office
- Report any solicitors to the Management Office
- Police lobby to keep floors and planters free of paper, debris, etc.
- Empty all trash receptacles
- Vacuum carpeted floors
- Dust mop lobby floors twice daily
- Polish elevator cab railings and doors and main lobby call buttons
- Assist building engineer daily per management discretion
