The role of Driver, Hourly CDL-A, at Core-Mark is a vital component of the company’s operational success and plays a key role in the country’s food supply chain. Drivers support America’s food distribution system by safely and efficiently delivering essential food and food-related products to customers. This position offers competitive pay, with average earnings between $70,000 and $80,000 per year, along with a $10,000 sign-on bonus for drivers who have at least one year of CDL-A driving experience. The work schedule is structured as a Monday through Friday four-day workweek, with dispatch times between 2:00 am and 8:00 am. Notably, this position provides the advantage of being home every day, which supports work-life balance.

In this role, the CDL-A driver is responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The driver must comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies to ensure safety and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include performing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections; managing freight loading and unloading; verifying delivery accuracy; completing required paperwork; performing damage control checks; maintaining cleanliness and order within the vehicle and work areas; and supporting company safety programs. Drivers are expected to maintain professionalism in their communications with customers, vendors, and colleagues, serving as a positive representation of Core-Mark while building lasting relationships with customers.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule, unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scan and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures, collect money where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
