Job Description

About the Employer and Role: The hiring institution is a respected educational campus committed to providing a clean, safe, and productive learning environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This campus is dedicated to fostering academic excellence by maintaining its facilities to the highest standards. Their commitment to safety, cleanliness, and a welcoming atmosphere ensures that all who enter the campus experience an environment conducive to learning and community engagement. The campus spans multiple buildings including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas which require ongoing custodial attention to support smooth operation and present a professional image.

The Day Porter plays a key role within the campus facilities team, focusing on continuous custodial support during operating hours. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of high-traffic areas with an emphasis on responsiveness and thorough care. The Day Porter must be proactive in addressing immediate cleaning needs, spot-cleaning surfaces, and restocking necessary supplies, ensuring that all areas are consistently presentable and functional. This includes classrooms, hallways, offices, entryways, restrooms, and common spaces. The role also involves assisting with campus events when needed, requiring flexibility in scheduling and a readiness to support additional custodial tasks.

This position demands a strong attention to detail, physical stamina to manage duties that involve frequent walking, lifting, and bending, and an understanding of safe chemical handling practices. Adherence to local health and safety regulations as well as college policies is critical for compliance and operational excellence. The environment, although primarily indoors, can involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and the necessity of using personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks. The successful Day Porter candidate will have a background in custodial or janitorial work, preferably within educational or similar institutional settings, and demonstrate reliable independent work habits.

This role offers the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team aiming to enhance the campus experience through diligent maintenance of the facilities. While the position does not specify salary details, it typically involves daytime shifts aligned with standard campus hours, with occasional adjustments for special events. Ideal candidates will possess good interpersonal skills to interact courteously with campus members and an ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. This opportunity is well-suited for individuals who take pride in contributing to a safe and welcoming atmosphere and thrive in a role that combines independence with teamwork within an educational setting.
