This role is for a Day Porter, focused on maintaining commercial buildings including office complexes, apartment houses, and other institutional facilities. The Day Porter ensures common areas remain clean and orderly throughout the day. Responsibilities include spot cleaning lobby glass doors, polishing chrome fixtures, vacuuming elevator cabs, and monitoring restrooms twice daily to provide a hygienic environment. The individual will also be tasked with sweeping stairwells, keeping landscaped areas trash-free, cleaning ashtrays, emptying trash receptacles, and reporting any facility issues such as lighting problems or solicitors to management. This position contributes significantly to the building’s overall presentation and the comfort of all occupants and visitors.

Safety and dependability are key competencies expected of a Day Porter. The individual should consistently adhere to safety protocols, responsibly handle materials and equipment, and take proactive measures to report unsafe conditions promptly. Punctuality, attendance, and commitment to completing assigned tasks on time are highly valued traits. Job Requirements

  • Availability Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Ability to pass a background check in accordance with California law
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning
  • Ability to work in varying environments including exposure to mechanical parts, chemicals, and outdoor weather
  • Good attendance and punctuality
  • Dependability and commitment to completing tasks on time
  • Ability to observe and follow safety and security procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous janitorial or cleaning experience is an asset
  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic

Job Duties

  • Spot clean the lobby glass doors
  • Polish chrome on lobby doors
  • Vacuum elevator cabs and wipe cab doors, walls, and tops twice a day
  • Inspect the building exterior and pick up any trash
  • Clean ashtrays and sand urns on every floor
  • Empty and clean exterior trash receptacles
  • Check restrooms twice daily
  • Vacuum lobby once a day or as needed
  • Sweep stairwells and landings as needed
  • Remove all debris from landscaped areas as needed
  • Sweep building entrances
  • Clean and remove smudges and marks on walls, doors, and wall covering
  • Report any lights out (exit, directory boards, etc.) to the Management Office
  • Report any solicitors to the Management Office
  • Police lobby to keep floors and planters free of paper, debris, etc., scheduling policing at high-traffic times each day
  • Empty all trash receptacles
  • Vacuum carpeted floors
  • Dust mop lobby floors twice daily
  • Polish elevator cab railings and doors and main lobby call buttons
  • Assist building Engineer daily per Management discretion
