The Day Porter role at CCS Facility Services is a crucial position responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of common areas in office buildings, apartment complexes, and other commercial or institutional facilities. This role demands attention to detail and a proactive attitude toward facility upkeep. Day Porters perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks designed to ensure that lobbies, elevators, restrooms, entrances, stairwells, and landscaped areas remain pristine and welcoming at all times. Their daily duties include spot cleaning glass doors, polishing chrome and elevator cab railings, vacuuming carpeted areas, sweeping floors and landings, removing debris from both indoor and outdoor spaces, and ensuring trash receptacles are emptied and cleaned regularly. The position also involves safety monitoring tasks such as reporting lighting issues, unwanted solicitors, and maintaining a safe, clean environment throughout the day.

This position typically works Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday, from 6 am to 2:30 pm, offering a structured and consistent schedule. The role requires a reliable individual who can work independently while also assisting building engineers as needed. A key competency for success in this role includes consistent attendance and punctuality, dependability in following instructions and completing tasks, and a strong commitment to safety and security standards.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in janitorial or facility maintenance preferred
  • ability to stand, walk, and perform physical cleaning tasks for extended periods
  • able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • good attendance and punctuality
  • ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers
  • willingness to work early morning schedules
  • basic knowledge of cleaning safety procedures

Job Duties

  • spot clean the lobby glass doors
  • polish chrome on lobby doors
  • vacuum elevator cabs and wipe cab doors, walls, and tops twice a day
  • inspect the building exterior and pick up any trash
  • clean ashtrays and sand urns on every floor
  • empty and clean exterior trash receptacles
  • check restrooms twice daily
  • vacuum lobby once a day or as needed
  • sweep stairwells and landings as needed
  • remove all debris from landscaped areas as needed
  • sweep building entrances
  • clean and remove smudges and marks on walls, doors, and wall covering
  • report any lights out (exit, directory boards, etc.) to the management office
  • report any solicitors to the management office
  • police lobby to keep floors and planters free of paper, debris, etc., and empty all trash receptacles
  • vacuum carpeted floors
  • dust mop lobby floors twice daily
  • polish elevator cab railings and doors and main lobby call buttons
  • assist building engineer daily per management discretion
