The role of a Day Porter at Thompson Facilities Services is pivotal in supporting the cleanliness, appearance, and overall maintenance of Benedict College’s facilities. This full-time position requires a dependable and customer-focused individual who can work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic campus environment. Day Porters are responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, lobbies, and other common areas throughout the day. Their duties include performing routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal to ensure the campus remains welcoming to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

In addition to standard cleaning duties, the Day Porter must be vigilant and responsive to urgent cleaning requests, spills, and accidents that may occur during the day. They also assist with event setup and breakdown, helping to prepare for and support campus meetings and activities. Light maintenance duties are expected as part of this role, with the Day Porter responsible for reporting any maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel. The position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining high cleanliness standards.

Safety is a top priority for Thompson Facilities Services, and the Day Porter must adhere to all safety procedures, company policies, and OSHA standards. Professionalism and excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves interacting courteously with a diverse campus community. Physical fitness is important since the job entails standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating custodial equipment across multiple buildings and varying environmental conditions. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability for possible evenings or weekends, is also required to meet the demands of campus events and cleaning needs.
