Job Description

This full-time, on-site Day Porter position plays a vital role in the smooth upkeep and operation of the church facilities. The Day Porter works under the guidance of the Facility Maintenance Manager and is responsible for completing day-to-day building cleaning and janitorial duties. This role is essential to maintaining the welcoming environment that the church strives to provide. The position requires a highly organized, dedicated individual capable of managing a broad spectrum of tasks simultaneously. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with management to develop effective cleaning schedules, including regular daily tasks and weekly or monthly work timetables. Additionally, the Day Porter assists other Facilities staff during church events, including Sunday services and other scheduled activities.
The position demands flexibility as it includes a Monday through Friday daily schedule as well as a rotating weekend Sunday schedule, and occasionally requires evening hours or Saturday work as assigned. Compensation for this role ranges from $18.00 to $20.00 per hour based on experience, with payment distributed bi-weekly. The Day Porter will be responsible for a range of cleaning and maintenance duties. These include cleaning all common areas such as meeting rooms, cafeterias, boardrooms, offices, hallways, and restrooms. The role requires responding promptly to cleaning emergencies like major spills and maintaining safety by placing appropriate hazard signs when necessary. The Day Porter ensures that meeting spaces and other designated rooms are arranged correctly based on schedule or requests, supports event setups and breakdowns, and maintains a visible Facilities staff presence during church services and events.
Operational responsibilities also include liaising with custodial vendors to maintain service quality, managing custodial supplies and inventory, responding to maintenance work orders prioritizing emergencies, submitting daily reports, completing preventative maintenance tasks, and keeping the grounds orderly. The position requires operating mechanical cleaning equipment such as floor cleaners and waxers and attending all relevant training sessions and meetings. Individuals in this role will also rotate on call as scheduled and may be assigned special projects by church leadership. This role is rooted in a strong sense of teamwork, communication, and an upbeat customer service-oriented approach.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years prior custodial experience
- Two years prior event setup experience

Job Duties
- Clean all common room areas including meeting spaces, cafeteria, board rooms, offices, hallways, restrooms and any assigned buildings
- When applicable, place safety hazard signs in the building including wet paint and wet floor warning signs
- Respond to any major spills or other cleaning crises
- Ensure meeting spaces and other designated rooms are properly arranged as scheduled/requested
- Assist in all event setups and breakdowns
- Maintain a Facilities staff presence during Church events and meetings
- Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for teachers, students, members, employees, and visitors with regular monitoring of buildings and grounds for appearance and cleanliness
- Liaise with custodial vendor to ensure high quality services are delivered as contracted
- Manage custodial supplies and inventories ensuring that required items are timely ordered, delivered, stocked and available for use
- Respond to assigned repair/maintenance work orders during the workday, giving priority to any emergency calls
- Submit daily reports of assignments that cannot be completed during the workday
- Complete regularly scheduled preventative maintenance assignments
- Perform general clean-up of the overall grounds as necessary
- Operate mechanical equipment such as floor cleaners/waxers
- Attend all work-related training and assigned meetings
- Rotate on call, as scheduled
