Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a global leader in cloud infrastructure, renowned for its innovative and reliable technology solutions that power millions of businesses and services worldwide. As a part of Amazon's vast ecosystem, AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of a vast network of data centers that form the backbone of the cloud. These data centers host the servers, storage systems, networking equipment, power supplies, and cooling mechanisms necessary to ensure uninterrupted service availability for customers. With a commitment to operational excellence, safety, and security, AWS offers an inclusive and dynamic work culture that fosters collaboration, innovation, and personal ownership of projects from inception to completion.

The Data Center Technician role within AWS Infrastructure Services is a critical position that involves maintaining the physical and network health of AWS's global data infrastructure. This position requires hands-on involvement in hardware and network diagnostics, physical repairs, and routine maintenance that ensures the continuous, seamless operation of data centers. Technicians routinely perform server rack installations, troubleshooting, break-fix operations on hardware components, and network issue resolution. Additionally, they are essential points of contact for internal and external stakeholders including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors, ensuring all parts of the infrastructure work harmoniously to support AWS's high standards for uptime and performance.

This role demands a commitment to a flexible schedule, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts, due to the 24/7 nature of AWS's global operations. The Data Center Technician must be able to lift and move equipment safely, often working in physically demanding environments that include cramped or elevated locations, and must comply with safety standards when using ladders, stairs, or gangways. The role may require frequent travel, sometimes over 50 miles, to various AWS data center locations, as technicians support facilities in different phases of operation, including those under development. AWS supports eligible candidates with a lump sum stipend to assist relocation, emphasizing its commitment to placing talent where they are needed most.

In addition to technical skills, this role requires excellent problem-solving abilities, a strong customer service orientation, and a proactive mindset. Data Center Technicians take ownership of issues, acting decisively and innovating processes to improve operational effectiveness. They contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives and assist with interviewing, training, and onboarding new team members, helping to build a knowledgeable and cohesive workforce.

The compensation package includes a competitive hourly wage range from $30.00 to $54.00, supplemented by sign-on bonuses, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave. AWS also maintains an inclusive culture that values diversity, equity, and accommodation for all employees, ensuring that candidates with disabilities receive support throughout the hiring and onboarding processes.

Joining the AWS team as a Data Center Technician means being part of a highly skilled and diverse group of professionals dedicated to powering one of the world’s most scalable and innovative technology platforms. It offers a unique opportunity to develop specialized skills in IT hardware and networking within a challenging and rewarding industry environment that values initiative, safety, and customer-centric solutions.
