This entry-level Hardware Technician position is based in Reno, NV, and offers a contract employment type with a competitive pay rate ranging from $23.00 to $25.00 per hour. The role is ideal for candidates beginning their careers in server hardware, data center operations, or IT infrastructure. It involves hands-on support in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of server and data center hardware. The technician will focus on rack and stack installation of servers, supporting middle-of-rack buildouts, staging and labeling cables, and installing hardware components as per documented procedures. Troubleshooting involves diagnosing issues with servers, replacing failed components such as drives, memory, and power supplies, performing power cycles and resets, and scope and quality testing power and cable connections.
Additional responsibilities include performing software, firmware, and hardware updates, conducting preventative maintenance, cleaning and maintaining fiber optic connections, assisting with system validation and quality control, maintaining hardware asset records, performing physical audits, processing hardware returns and RMA activities, and supporting asset tracking and equipment lifecycle management. Candidates should have foundational experience with computer hardware, servers, or technical equipment and possess skills in hardware troubleshooting, component replacement, cable management, and basic networking connectivity understanding. The role demands adherence to technical documentation and standard operating procedures.

Job Requirements

- entry-level experience in computer hardware, servers, or related technical equipment
- familiarity with rack and stack installation techniques
- ability to troubleshoot hardware components and replace failed units

Job Duties
- Perform rack and stack installation of servers and related hardware
- support Middle of Rack (MOR) buildouts and hardware deployments
- stage, route, and label power and network cables
- install hardware components and peripherals according to documented procedures
- diagnose and troubleshoot server and hardware issues
- replace failed components including drives, memory, power supplies, and other field-replaceable units (FRUs)
- perform basic server repairs on rack-mounted and discrete server systems
- conduct power cycles and hardware resets as required
- scope, test, quality-check, and troubleshoot power and cable connections
- install software, firmware, and hardware updates
- perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections
- clean and maintain fiber optic connections and links
- assist with system validation, testing, and quality control activities
- maintain accurate hardware asset records and inventory updates
