The role in question is a leadership position within the Infrastructure Management team, focused on advancing the operational excellence of Amazon’s Data Center Operations. This position requires a highly experienced technology manager capable of leading diverse teams of data center technicians and operators with varying skill sets. You will be responsible for driving strategic initiatives and managing projects that support various stages of data center operations, including facilities still under development, which may involve traveling to established sites for training and operations understanding. This managerial position demands a mix of strong technical knowledge, excellent people management, the ability to mentor, and an aptitude for proposing innovative technical solutions. A significant part of the role is coordinating operational support, overseeing incident management via prioritized trouble ticket assignments, and ensuring compliance with established service level agreements through robust policies and procedures. The candidate will also engage in recruiting, training, and performance management to maintain a high-functioning team.

Candidates must be US citizens with an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility or higher, with the ability and willingness to maintain and upgrade this clearance status. Additionally, this role is expected to travel more than 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center locations as required. The role offers a competitive salary range from $78,400 to $137,300 annually, inclusive of sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Job Requirements

  • Be a US citizen
  • Possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center sites
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • 3+ years of IT experience or equivalent degree
  • 2+ years of operations and on-call support experience in data center or mission critical facilities
  • Willing to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph
  • Commit to opt into a commensurate government clearance for AWS work

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • 3+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience, or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
  • 2+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities, mission critical plants, or production facilities, or 1+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities, mission critical plants, or production facilities experience
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above
  • Experience in project or program management
  • 1+ years of data center experience
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
  • In-depth hardware knowledge and troubleshooting experience, system management tools and client/server environments

Job Duties

  • Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data center technicians and operators
  • Routinely review ticket queue for large events and address accordingly
  • Coordinate change management resources
  • Guide, train and educate data staff on the best practices related to all service owner issues
  • Manage and deliver mid-size projects
  • Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and to meet required SLAs
  • Manage a diverse team of data technicians with varying skills
  • Provide weekly report to the data center manager
  • Maintain the on-call schedule coordinating absence and vacations
  • Recruit and train data technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels
  • Host weekly staff meetings
  • Write and deliver performance reviews for staff
