Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services is a dynamic and innovative division within Amazon that specializes in the design, planning, delivery, and operation of the global AWS infrastructure. AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, powering millions of customers globally, from startups to Fortune 500 companies. The AWS Infrastructure Services team plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational excellence of data centers worldwide, ensuring that customers have continual access to reliable, scalable, and secure cloud services. This team comprises a diverse group of professionals including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who collaborate to uphold the highest standards of performance, safety, and cost efficiency.
Joining AWS means becoming part of a culture that values innovation, diversity, and inclusion. Employees are empowered to own bold ideas and drive them to completion, supported by a flexible work environment that fosters work-life harmony. Amazon is committed to continuous learning and development, offering resources such as mentorship programs and knowledge-sharing events to help employees grow professionally. AWS also promotes an inclusive culture where employee-led affinity groups and ongoing conversations on race, ethnicity, and unique perspectives create a welcoming workplace.
The Infrastructure Management team at AWS is expanding and seeking experienced technology managers to lead data center operations to new heights. This role is pivotal in managing teams with various technical skills, devising strategic initiatives, mentoring employees at all levels, and guiding important projects and technical solutions. Candidates will be responsible for overseeing data centers in various stages of their operational lifecycle, including facilities under development, which may require travel for training and operational readiness.
The position demands strong leadership capabilities, technical acumen, and the ability to manage complex operational challenges. The successful applicant will prioritize and assign tasks, coordinate change management, train staff on best practices, manage mid-sized projects, establish policies and procedures aligned with industry standards and service level agreements, and maintain effective communication with leadership. Managing a diverse team, recruiting and training new technicians, handling on-call schedules, conducting performance reviews, and hosting regular staff meetings are key responsibilities.
An important requirement for this role is holding and maintaining an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility, including a polygraph, due to the sensitive nature of work and federal government regulations. This clearance must be maintained as a condition of employment and applies to all government agencies for which the candidate performs work. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and prepared for travel requirements to data centers within a 50-mile commute or longer travel as needed.
This is a full-time, salaried position based in Mineral, Virginia, with an annual salary range from $78,400 to $137,300, complemented by sign-on bonuses, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave. AWS encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, including those with non-traditional career paths or experiences, emphasizing its commitment to equal opportunity and accommodation throughout the hiring process.
By joining AWS Infrastructure Services as a Technology Manager, you will be at the forefront of cloud infrastructure innovation, leading operational excellence efforts that directly impact the availability and security of AWS services globally. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals to advance their careers in a challenging, rewarding environment with a company that is a global leader in cloud technology.
