Job Description

The Data Center Facility Manager position at Amazon is critical in sustaining the heartbeat of this global infrastructure. The role focuses on overseeing the operational integrity, safety, and performance of the physical infrastructure of one or more data center sites. This includes management of complex electrical and mechanical systems such as standby diesel generators, 3-phase electrical systems, switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, wet cell batteries, CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and motors, among others. The manager is the frontline expert who ensures these mission-critical systems operate smoothly with minimal downtime, supporting the company’s commitment to 99.999% uptime reliability.

In this hands-on leadership role, the Facility Manager directs the efforts of 24x7 shift technicians, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring that all work adheres to high safety standards and operational protocols. The manager plays a key part in promoting a culture of safety, security, and operational excellence while inspiring their team through effective coaching and career development. With a focus on budget management and continuous improvement, the Facility Manager drives projects that enhance facility efficiency and response to emergencies.

This is a full-time position based in Sparks, NV, with a competitive salary range starting at $129,200 up to $193,000 annually, along with comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience managing large teams
  • 3+ years hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems in industrial settings
  • strong leadership and team management skills
  • excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • ability to work flexible hours including responding to emergency calls
  • physical capability to access and maintain data center equipment
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • commitment to maintaining high safety and security standards
  • experience driving operational efficiency and budget management

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience
  • 5+ years in managerial/supervisory roles with 8-10 or more direct reports
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems relevant to critical data center operations
  • bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years working in data center or mission critical environments with equipment operation emphasis
  • experience communicating technical details verbally and in writing
  • ability to work in environments requiring physical activity like walking, stooping, bending, and climbing
  • experience in behavioral interviewing and hiring

Job Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure
  • maintain high availability and performance while ensuring quality work and meeting SLAs
  • manage on-site teams of 24x7 shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors
  • drive safety and security culture compliance within the team
  • hire, coach, and promote team members while managing their career development and performance
  • manage the operations budget and expenditures effectively
  • engage in and lead improvement projects from conception to completion
  • act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues
  • oversee routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems
  • utilize root cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem solving skills
  • respond to out-of-hours emergency calls
  • support multiple locations/sites as needed
  • assist in the build-out of new facilities and projects to increase efficiency
  • use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and other administrative tools for daily tasks
