The Data Center Facility Manager role at AWS is a pivotal position that requires a passionate and skilled technical leader dedicated to maintaining the operational heartbeat of AWS's global data centers. This position acts as the frontline custodian of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure that supports mission-critical data center operations. As a Data Center Facility Manager, you will oversee the functionality and maintenance of a broad spectrum of equipment including diesel generators, electrical systems like switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and battery systems, as well as mechanical cooling units including CRAC units, chillers, cooling towers, and associated systems. This role demands hands-on troubleshooting expertise, management of on-site teams, and active engagement in operational excellence projects that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the centers. Beyond technical know-how, the role encapsulates leadership responsibilities such as managing and developing teams, ensuring safety and compliance, controlling budgets, and coordinating with different AWS teams to uphold high standards of safety, quality, and service availability. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain more than 99.999% uptime across the various systems that underpin AWS's cloud infrastructure.

This full-time position is located in Sparks, Nevada, and offers a competitive annual salary range of $129,200 to $193,000, complemented by sign-on bonuses, restricted stock units (RSUs), and a comprehensive benefits package. The role involves collaboration with diverse teams and requires a technical resource who thrives in fast-paced, high-stakes environments while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. The Data Center Facility Manager is critical to AWS’s ability to deliver uninterrupted cloud services, driving innovations in data center operational management and setting benchmarks in technical leadership within the cloud infrastructure industry.

Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in engineering or related field
  • Minimum five years of managerial or supervisory experience in industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • Proven experience operating and troubleshooting mission-critical data center facility equipment
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Strong knowledge of electrical support equipment and mechanical cooling systems
  • Ability to work flexible hours including responding to emergency call-outs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Commitment to safety and compliance standards
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written

Job Qualifications

  • Three plus years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience
  • Five plus years of managerial or supervisory experience with 8-10 or more direct reports
  • Three plus years of experience in industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent experience
  • Seven plus years of experience in a data center or mission-critical environment
  • Experience communicating technical details verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work in environments involving walking, stooping, bending, and climbing
  • Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience

Job Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure
  • Maintain high availability and performance while ensuring that all work is done to high quality without impacting customers
  • Manage on-site teams of 24x7 shift technicians, sub-contractors and vendors
  • Drive safety and security culture and compliance within the team
  • Hire, coach, and promote team members
  • Manage the operations budget and expenditures effectively
  • Engage in improvement projects and drive them from conception to completion
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues
  • Oversee routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building monitoring systems
  • Utilize root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls
  • Support multiple locations/sites
  • Assist in new facility build-outs and projects to increase efficiency
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools for day-to-day tasks
