Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of two years food service experience
  • strong mechanical skills and working kitchen knowledge
  • knowledge of culinary terms
  • ability to use all kitchen tools including peelers, knives, ovens, grills, fryolators, mixers, food processors, steam controlled equipment, and slicers
  • working knowledge of basic sanitation and ability to sanitize and store kitchen equipment
  • ability to perform skilled kitchen duties including pantry, salad, and proper meat, poultry, seafood, vegetable, soup, stock, and sauce preparation
  • ability to perform all cooking methods such as broiling, sautéing, deep-frying, boiling, steaming, baking, and grilling
  • ability to alert manager or chef of equipment malfunctions
  • ability to work in various climates and conditions including exposure to water, steam, chemicals, and heat
  • ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • ability to instruct and communicate properly with subordinate employees
  • physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs repeatedly
  • ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • ability to work in noisy and smoke or secondary smoke environments
  • must be at least 18 years old
  • ability to obtain and maintain appropriate licensing
  • ability to pass a background check

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of two years food service experience
  • minimum of three years cooking experience a plus
  • culinary school diploma preferred
  • strong knowledge of culinary terms and mechanical skills
  • ability to use kitchen tools including peelers, knives, ovens, grills, fryolators, mixers, food processors, steam controlled equipment, and slicers
  • understanding of basic sanitation skills and ability to sanitize kitchen equipment and utensils
  • ability to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • strong communication and leadership skills
  • ability to perform tasks with a sense of urgency

Job Duties

  • Oversee and train all culinary positions
  • identify various foods and ensure proper handling, preparation, and storage
  • perform skilled kitchen duties including pantry and salad preparation
  • prepare meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, soups, stocks, and sauces
  • execute cooking methods such as broiling, sautéing, deep-frying, boiling, steaming, baking, and grilling
  • fill out production schedules, opening and closing checklists, and requisition forms
  • communicate proper methods and procedures to subordinate employees professionally according to Scioto standards
