Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Must meet age restriction (referred before 40th birthday unless exempted by law enforcement retirement provisions or veterans' preference)
- Eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment if applicable
- Required to complete paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day training at the CBP Field Operations Academy including physical fitness and firearms training
- Successful completion of Academy required for employment
Job Qualifications
- Minimum three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and apply a body of facts
- Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university
- Combination of successfully completed college education and general work experience
- One year of specialized full-time work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level that includes performing physical inspections and evaluating facts while applying laws for GS-7 level
- Bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education for GS-7 level
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate-level education for GS-7 level
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- Making determinations that may lead to arrests, seizure of property, fines, and/or penalties based on findings
