Job Description

U-Haul is a well-established American company that has been serving the moving and storage needs of customers since 1945. Founded in the aftermath of World War II by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and Anna Mary Carty Shoen, U-Haul revolutionized the moving industry by creating a self-service model that allowed customers to rent trucks and trailers for one-way moves across the United States and Canada. From humble beginnings inspired by the pioneer covered wagon, U-Haul has grown into a trusted brand recognized nationwide for its distinctive orange trailers and commitment to customer service. The company's rich history is marked by innovation in transportation and mobility solutions for individuals and families undertaking do-it-yourself moves.

U-Haul Holding Company and its family of businesses continue to focus on creating a workplace culture centered around health, wellness, and diversity. The company maintains equal opportunity employment policies and offers accommodations during the hiring process to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all applicants. The company’s commitment to safety and employee well-being is clear in policies that include restrictions on hiring tobacco users in certain states to promote a healthy workforce. U-Haul also boasts a comprehensive benefits package to support its employees both personally and professionally.

The Customer Service Representative/Lot Attendant role at U-Haul is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals who enjoy helping others and thrive in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment. The position is hourly, with a pay range between $15.00 and $22.00 per hour, reflecting an attractive compensation structure for those new to this line of work or looking to grow their career in customer service and equipment handling. U-Haul provides on-the-job training as well as various certification programs such as the U-Haul Equipment Inspection and Verification and forklift certification, emphasizing career development and skills enhancement.

In this role, the successful candidate will be the face of U-Haul, directly assisting customers with product and service needs, inspecting and maintaining rental equipment, and using innovative technology like the U-Scan smartphone app for inventory and dispatch management. This hands-on position involves a variety of duties, including moving and hooking up U-Haul trucks and trailers, cleaning and inspecting equipment for safety and functionality, answering customer questions, preparing rental invoices, and managing returned equipment. The role also encompasses specialized tasks such as installing hitches, trailer wiring, filling propane tanks (certifications provided), and forklift operation (also certified through U-Haul).

Apart from the day-to-day operational responsibilities, employees who join U-Haul as Customer Service Representatives/Lot Attendants will benefit from continuous education through U-Haul University, fostering ongoing learning, professional growth, and the opportunity to advance within the company. U-Haul promotes a supportive and dynamic work environment where career stability and progression are key priorities. New hires receive immediate compensation through a unique two-interview pay system and can earn hiring bonuses and certification incentives.

This position also involves physical activity — moving, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working indoors and outdoors in conditions that may require protective clothing and safety gear. U-Haul is committed to employee safety and ensuring that staff members are well-equipped and trained to perform their duties effectively and responsibly. Choosing to work as a Customer Service Representative/Lot Attendant at U-Haul means becoming part of an iconic company with a rich heritage, excellent benefits, impactful career opportunities, and a culture dedicated to customer satisfaction and employee well-being.
