Currently, Commerce Bank is seeking a Collector to join their team. This role is essential in maintaining the bank’s low delinquency rates and minimizing losses on various consumer and corporate financial products, including credit cards, secured and unsecured loans, and real estate loans. The Collector plays a pivotal role in engaging with customers to help them understand their financial obligations while preventing or reducing potential losses to the bank. This position requires a professional who is empathetic yet firm, possessing excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role supports a hybrid/flexible work model, emphasizing the importance of physical presence during critical moments while allowing remote work flexibility within a reasonable distance from the Kansas City or St. Louis locations.
The Collector will be responsible for managing low-risk account collections, providing tailored assistance to customers based on their financial situations, negotiating repayment options, and maintaining accurate account documentation. Work hours are structured Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon, with required weekly flexible prime-time hours. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year customer service experience
- Familiarity with collection management software
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work remotely within a 3-hour radius of Kansas City or St. Louis
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1+ year customer service experience
- Collections experience preferred
- General understanding of collection management software such as TSYS, SHAW, DM9
- Familiarity with inbound/outbound/blended dialing environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to remain adaptable and resilient with an optimistic outlook aligned with company culture and Core Values
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Job Duties
- Collect on low-risk accounts to minimize the Bank's 30+ delinquency rate
- Assist the consumer in a professional and empathetic manner to interpret their financial situation, reason for delinquency, and provide guidance to limit loss to the bank
- Negotiate repayment options by asking questions and offering applicable solutions
- Handle incoming and outgoing calls to customers with current and past due accounts, and leave messages as necessary
- Provide proper documentation and account maintenance while maintaining an acceptable level of quality assurance and productivity
- Perform other duties as assigned
