Job Description

U-Haul is a well-established company that has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households since 1945. The company was founded by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, who recognized the demand for accessible and affordable moving equipment available on a one-way, nationwide basis. Their innovative concept of sharing the ownership cost among many users revolutionized the moving industry and facilitated the mobility of populations across the U.S. and Canada. Today, U-Haul has grown into a renowned leader in the moving and storage sector, known for its vast network of rental locations, truck and trailer fleet, and comprehensive moving solutions designed to enhance the independence and convenience of its customers. U-Haul holds a strong commitment to creating a culture of health and wellness among its employees and maintains progressive employment practices, including equal opportunity policies and accommodations for all applicants. The company also enforces a nicotine-free employment policy in certain states to ensure a healthier workforce.

The Customer Service Lot Attendant role at U-Haul is a dynamic and customer-focused position that plays a crucial part in delivering the company's renowned service experience. As the face of U-Haul at retail centers, the representative engages directly with customers, assisting them with products and services while ensuring that equipment is well-maintained and ready for use. This role involves inspecting trucks, trailers, and other equipment, checking fluid levels, and performing routine maintenance to keep the fleet in optimal condition. Additionally, lot attendants assist customers with preparing rental invoices, returning rentals, and educating customers about U-Haul's wide range of offerings.

The position is hands-on and involves the use of smartphone-based U-Scan technology for managing rentals and inventory, making it essential for attendants to be comfortable with technology and customer interaction. U-Haul also provides on-the-job education and certifications, including propane filling and forklift operation, which supports professional development and operational safety. The employment type is hourly, with a competitive pay range of $16.90 to $17.50. U-Haul’s hiring philosophy is quick and rewarding, offering immediate interviews with paid shifts and incentives such as a $100 hiring bonus and a $300 cash bonus for completing certification programs.

This role is ideal for motivated individuals who enjoy helping others and working in a team-oriented environment. The physical demands require the ability to perform moderate exertion, including moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in various weather conditions. U-Haul supports its employees with various benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, legal programs, and advancement opportunities, underscoring its commitment to employee well-being and satisfaction. Overall, this is a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to start or grow a career in customer service within a supportive and stable company.
