Job Description

U-Haul is a well-established company that has been a household name since 1945, providing essential moving equipment and services to do-it-yourself movers across the United States and Canada. Founded by L.S. 'Sam' Shoen and Anna Mary Carty Shoen, U-Haul pioneered the concept of affordable, one-way rental trucks and trailers. This approach revolutionized the moving industry by allowing customers to rent vehicles nationwide, facilitating their mobility with ease and convenience. As an industry leader, U-Haul continues to expand its offerings to include an array of moving and storage solutions designed to make moving hassle-free and affordable for families, individuals, and businesses alike.

The company operates with a strong commitment to customer service and community well-being, reflected by its extensive benefits programs and emphasis on creating a health-conscious culture among employees. U-Haul’s comprehensive policies and forward-thinking approach ensure a supportive workplace while delivering exceptional service to their customers.

This particular role, Customer Service Representative / Lot Attendant, is vital to the smooth operation of U-Haul retail centers. The position is inherently people-focused, requiring friendly and motivated individuals who enjoy working with customers and offering practical assistance. Employees in this role act as the face of U-Haul, connecting with customers to ensure their rental experiences are seamless and satisfactory. Responsibilities include assisting customers with rental and return processes, performing equipment inspections and maintenance, and using advanced technology such as smartphone-based scanning tools to handle transactions effectively.

The position serves as an excellent entry point to the company, offering on-the-job training and certifications, including forklift operation and propane filling, which are provided after employment begins. U-Haul promotes professional growth and advancement through continuous education opportunities available via U-Haul University. The role comes with various incentives, including immediate paid interviews, a $100 hiring bonus, and a $300 cash bonus upon completion of specific certification programs, which underscores U-Haul’s dedication to rewarding committed team members.

Work environment considerations include handling equipment on the lot, which involves physical exertion and safety precautions such as protective gear when necessary. The position demands employees be comfortable working outdoors, occasionally lifting heavy items, and being proactive in maintaining service standards. The employer prioritizes equal opportunity and inclusivity and supports accommodations during the employment process.

In summary, this Customer Service Representative / Lot Attendant role at U-Haul offers a unique blend of customer interaction, physical activity, technical use, and career development within one of the most recognizable moving and storage companies in North America. Candidates seeking a stable job with chances for advancement and a robust package of benefits would find this an appealing opportunity to start or grow their careers.
