Job Description
Goodwill Industries is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with barriers to employment by providing them with vocational training and meaningful job opportunities. Operating retail stores across various communities, Goodwill combines social mission with retail business to create sustainable funding streams that support their programs. Through donated goods, Goodwill offers affordable products to customers while fostering community engagement and environmental sustainability by promoting reuse and recycling. The organization's commitment to inclusivity and community betterment has made it a trusted brand known for its quality offerings and dedicated workforce.
The role of Customer Service Associate (CSA) at Goodwill is pivotal in ensuring the success of their retail operations. This full-time or part-time position centers around delivering excellent customer service to donors, shoppers, and coworkers in a fast-paced retail environment. The CSA supports front-end operations including operating cash registers and point-of-sale systems, processing transactions accurately, balancing cash drawers, and generating daily register reports. Additionally, the CSA is responsible for receiving, sorting, and pricing donated goods, adhering to company guidelines and quality standards to maintain consistent merchandise quality.
Beyond transactional duties, the CSA plays an active part in maintaining an inviting store atmosphere by restocking merchandise, creating attractive displays, and ensuring the sales floor, fitting rooms, donation, and production areas remain clean, safe, and well-organized. The role demands teamwork, collaboration, and open communication to meet production, sales, and service goals aligned with Goodwill’s mission. The CSA also promotes a positive, inclusive workplace culture by exemplifying professionalism, integrity, and respect while participating in team meetings, trainings, and store events.
Physical demands are a significant aspect of the job, involving lifting and moving merchandise frequently, standing or walking for extended periods, and using hands and arms for various tasks. Safety protocols and loss prevention procedures are strictly followed to ensure a secure environment for all. The work environment may require handling potentially hazardous items and exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions. Flexible availability is essential as the job requires working during store operating hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service and community impact, providing comprehensive training and the chance to grow within a mission-driven organization. Previous retail or customer service experience is advantageous but not mandatory, and becoming certified on safety equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks may be necessary. By joining Goodwill as a CSA, employees contribute directly to improving lives and supporting community development, embodying the values of respect, cooperation, adaptability, and accountability in every interaction.
