Job Description

IKEA is a globally recognized home furnishings retailer known for its affordable, stylish, and functional products. Committed to creating a better everyday life for the many, IKEA fosters an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment where employees are valued and empowered to grow. This well-established company operates in various markets worldwide and places a strong emphasis on sustainability, community involvement, and innovation. Working at IKEA means being part of a larger mission to create positive social and environmental impact while delivering an exceptional shopping experience to customers. Employees at IKEA enjoy a supportive culture that values their uniqueness and encourages them to contribute meaningfully to both the company and society.

This role is for a Childrens Activity Area Associate at IKEA, a part-time position offering 12-19 hours per week with a competitive hourly wage of $19.50. The associate plays a vital role in enhancing customer experience by managing IKEA Smland, a designated childrens activity area that allows parents to shop while their children engage in fun and educational play. This position is ideal for someone passionate about childcare and customer service who thrives in a dynamic retail environment. The associate will contribute to maintaining a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment while engaging children through planned activities and play. Additionally, this role supports other customer-facing functions such as cashier and greeter duties, providing a well-rounded and collaborative retail experience.

Day-to-day responsibilities include registering and monitoring children in the Smland playroom, ensuring their safety and enjoyment, and creating a nurturing atmosphere that helps build trust and rapport with both children and their caretakers. The position also involves participating in the design and execution of activities within Smland and occasional activities outside the playroom, inviting creativity and interpersonal engagement. IKEAs strict policies on play facility safety and security must be adhered to at all times, reflecting the companys dedication to customer and co-worker well-being. This role is part of a broader Customer Relations team focused on creating joyful and genuine interactions that foster long-term relationships with IKEAs diverse customer base.

Employees in this role benefit from a variety of supportive offerings including generous paid time off, holiday and sick leave, early wage access through WiselyPay, paid parental leave of up to 16 weeks, a tuition discount with KinderCare, retirement and bonus plans, co-worker discounts, meal deals, referral bonuses, pet insurance, and education assistance programs. There are options for dental, vision, medical, and Rx plans for employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week, alongside safety shoe reimbursement and around-the-clock telehealth visits. The work environment is inclusive, safe, and fun, reflecting IKEAs commitment to nurturing the well-being and development of its workforce.

Applicants must have open availability Monday through Sunday to accommodate the varied hours of a retail setting. Physical demands include occasional lifting and carrying of objects up to 25 pounds. CPR and first aid certification training will be provided to ensure preparedness for any emergencies. Previous experience in retail or childcare is preferred but not mandatory, highlighting IKEAs willingness to train and invest in passionate individuals. To ensure workplace safety and integrity, candidates may be subject to background checks and drug testing. This role offers an excellent opportunity for those who want to make a positive impact, enjoy working with children, and engage with customers in a meaningful retail environment.
