This position is an hourly role starting at $15.00 per hour, offering individuals an opportunity to be part of a supportive and fast-paced retail team. The role involves leading front-end operations at one of Five Below’s retail stores, managing daily store activities, and helping to deliver a memorable shopping experience. The assistant manager position is key in ensuring that customers receive the best service through personal engagement and well-trained crew members. The assistant manager collaborates closely with the store manager and the store leadership team, sharing responsibilities such as recruiting, training, coaching, and supervising crew members. This position also involves operational duties including managing front-end merchandising, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the store meets brand standards and cleanliness expectations.

The assistant manager plays an essential role in upholding Five Below’s customer service goals by leading their team to provide fast, friendly check-out experiences and assist customers effectively on the sales floor. They are responsible for opening and closing procedures and stepping in to perform store manager duties in the manager’s absence. Moreover, the role requires a hands-on approach to store maintenance, including cleaning tasks and stockroom management. Candidates must be prepared to handle physical activities such as moving merchandise, ascending and descending ladders, and standing for extended periods. Flexibility in work schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and possible overnight shifts is also expected to meet business needs.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience
  • Ability to operate cash register
  • Ability to move merchandise weighing up to 25 lbs and place or remove merchandise up to 5-10 feet high
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders
  • Ability to kneel, bend, twist, and stoop frequently
  • Strong communication skills for customer, manager and coworker interactions
  • Ability to stand in a stationary upright position for 80% of the time
  • Flexible schedule including day, evening, weekend, overnight shifts and travel as required
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions related to merchandising layouts, associate schedules, and operating procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • College experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Duties

  • Ensure all crew members wow the customer through personal contact with customers
  • Train crew on the best customer service experience for a fast, friendly checkout
  • Lead assigned store to achieve and maintain customer service score goals
  • Lead front end operations including merchandising of candy, soda, snacks
  • Ensure all front-end equipment is in working order and associates are trained
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, maintain store cleanliness and recovery
  • Perform store manager duties in their absence
  • Partner with store manager to recruit, train, coach, and supervise crew members
  • Review all corporate communications and react accordingly
  • Partner with store leadership in merchandising and world recovery
  • Perform store maintenance including garbage removal, cleaning bathrooms, maintaining stock room
