Job Description
Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 (CIU20) is a reputable educational service agency located in Easton, Pennsylvania, dedicated to providing a broad range of support services to local school districts and communities. As a key player in the educational sector, CIU20 offers comprehensive programs that encompass special education, professional development, technology, curriculum, and various administrative services. This organization prides itself on fostering a collaborative environment that enhances educational opportunities and community wellbeing across the region. Their commitment to excellence is reflected in their sustained efforts to maintain safe, well-equipped, and efficiently managed facilities that support the learning and working environments of all users.
CIU20 is currently seeking a dedicated Custodian/Maintenance professional to join their team in a full-time capacity. This position is home-based at the Colonial IU main office located at 6 Danforth Drive, Easton, PA, with assignments extending to the Colonial Academy, Transportation Office, and Colonial Early Learning Center as needed. The role offers a salary of $42,013 per year and follows a 12-month full-time schedule, spanning 261 calendar days annually.
The Custodian/Maintenance position is integral to the ongoing upkeep and functionality of multiple facilities within the CIU20 network. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining both the indoor environment and external grounds, ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of all assigned locations. Responsibilities include outdoor maintenance like snow shoveling and plowing, as well as indoor tasks such as minor electrical and plumbing repairs, painting, cleaning, and facilitating office and classroom moves. A vital aspect of the role involves maintaining, repairing, and assembling office furniture, supporting smooth workplace transitions and updates.
Moreover, the Custodian/Maintenance professional will play a support role in the warehouse and custodial duties by stepping in as a backup when required. This flexibility is essential to maintaining CIU20’s standards in facility management and supplies logistics. In addition to physical maintenance, the role encompasses logistical duties such as delivering and picking up supplies and equipment to and from various school and facility sites.
The position also entails assisting with meeting preparation, including the setup and breakdown of meeting furniture and resources, along with managing food service activities related to meetings. This includes planning, serving, cleanup, and ensuring all custodial work tied to event support is completed effectively. By fulfilling these duties, the Custodian/Maintenance professional contributes directly to the quality of experiences in meetings and events held within CIU20 properties.
The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of minor electrical and plumbing tasks, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to work flexible hours as needed. A valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and the physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds are essential for fulfilling the mobility and physical demands of the role. Basic computer skills are also required to interact with CIU20’s computer and web-based programs, ensuring effective communication and task management.
This position requires a motivated individual who can follow oral and written instructions carefully, accept direction and constructive feedback positively, and demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic. Safety and compliance are priorities, and the new hire will be required to produce state-mandated background clearances and fraud checks to complete employment onboarding.
CIU20 is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. By joining their team, employees become part of a mission-driven organization that values integrity, teamwork, and dedication to community service. The Custodian/Maintenance role offers a rewarding opportunity to impact the educational infrastructure positively while working in a supportive and structured environment.
