The role open at this therapeutic day school is that of a Custodian/Maintenance Technician. This position is essential in maintaining the school facilities in optimum operating condition through cleanliness, safety, and functional upkeep. The Custodian/Maintenance Technician is expected to be an energetic and flexible employee, capable of effectively managing a variety of maintenance and custodial tasks. These tasks are vital in sustaining the quality and hygiene standards required by the school, especially given the sensitive nature of the student population they serve. The position involves deep engagement with the school’s physical environment, including regular cleaning duties, routine maintenance, minor repairs, and ensuring security protocols are followed. Given the specialized environment, the technician needs to be comfortable working in a high-needs setting and ready to adapt to the daily operational needs of the school.

Emphasizing the importance of the role, the technician’s duties will include cleaning bodily fluids when necessary, addressing graffiti, maintaining drinking fountains, cleaning and vacuuming high-traffic areas like front offices and reception, and assisting with cafeteria cleanliness during lunch periods. Additionally, the position is responsible for replenishing soap and paper products, cleaning glass windows and doors, emptying exterior trash bins, and policing the perimeter of the building for litter, ensuring a neat and welcoming environment. The technician will also maintain hallways by removing staples, tape, and scuff marks, support event setup and cleanup, disinfect outdoor playscapes quarterly, and maintain ceiling vents. Security responsibilities include opening and closing the building, inspecting the facility to ensure it is secure, and reporting any unsafe conditions promptly.

On the maintenance side, this role encompasses making minor plumbing repairs to sinks, toilets, and faucets, addressing small electrical issues, performing carpentry tasks such as assembling furniture and shelving, fixing custodial equipment like vacuum cleaners and snow blowers, and patching or painting walls and other building components. The technician will also assist in snow and ice removal during winter months, support HVAC repair efforts, and undertake other assigned maintenance tasks.

This full-year position covers 260 working days, split between 183 pupil days where the working hours are 8 per day and 77 non-pupil days with 7 working hours per day. The hourly salary for this role ranges from $28 to $32, reflecting the importance and technical nature of these responsibilities within the school system.
