This position is with Uplift North Hills Preparatory, part of the Uplift network, located in the 75039 area. The role is part of the Campus Operations team and is specifically focused on custodial duties. This full-time position involves maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment across the campus, including buildings, grounds, and facilities. Responsibilities include daily janitorial tasks, light maintenance, and supporting school functions through event setup and coordination with contractors for non-routine maintenance. The role is vital in upholding the high standards of cleanliness and safety required for an effective learning environment. Candidates can expect a dynamic work setting that involves interaction with school personnel, students, and the public.
As a Custodial team member at Uplift North Hills Preparatory, you will play an essential role in operational excellence by ensuring that all campus areas are clean, well-maintained, and conducive to learning and safety. The job entails tasks such as cleaning restrooms, classrooms, and common areas; conducting litter removal; performing light repairs; and executing special cleaning operations like stripping and waxing floors. You will also assist in managing inventory and supplies related to custodial work and contribute to safety by reporting issues promptly. The role demands physical stamina and the ability to work in various environmental conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
This position does not require prior certification but prefers candidates with experience in janitorial or building maintenance services, especially those familiar with operating janitorial machinery. The candidate should be able to read and understand written and verbal instructions in English and be capable of using basic office technology and smartphones for communication and task management. While bilingual skills are not required, the ability to communicate effectively in English is essential. The work environment is active and sometimes physically demanding, with exposure to varying weather and occasional loud noises. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- minimum 2 years’ experience in janitorial service industry or building maintenance
- ability to receive and understand verbal and written instructions in English
- ability to use basic office equipment and computer software
- physical ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly
- capability to perform various physical movements such as reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, bending, climbing and crawling
- willingness to work in environments with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, loud equipment and moving mechanical parts
- ability to work under continuous interruptions and distractions
- must be able to maintain organization and cleanliness in work areas
- able to use smartphones for communication
- willingness to learn new technology and equipment operation
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent OR minimum 2 years’ experience in the janitorial service industry OR 2 years’ experience in building maintenance
- experience working with janitorial machinery (floor scrubbers, floor buffers, restroom cleaning machines) preferred but not required
- ability to receive and understand verbal and written instructions in English
- ability to use computer software to view work orders
- ability to use basic office equipment
- ability to learn how to operate a burglar alarm
- ability to use a smart phone to send and receive photos and text messages
- ability to use standard custodial equipment computerized displays and controls
- ability to complete video or teleconference training
Job Duties
- Maintains campus buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment by performing regular janitorial and maintenance tasks
- performs routine custodial and maintenance tasks
- perform cafeteria breakfast and lunch dining area cleaning and setup
- perform cleaning on restrooms, hallways, classrooms and other common areas
- perform litter removal and routine cleaning of the exterior of assigned building(s) and property
- perform light-duty repairs and maintenance such as painting or changing light bulbs
- cleaning bodily fluids and disinfecting surfaces
- perform setup for campus events
- performs and/or oversees contractors who perform non-routine maintenance tasks and summer refresh tasks
- pressure washing and other cleaning of the building exterior
- re-painting walls in classrooms and walls inside the building
- moving furniture in preparation for stripping and waxing operations
- assisting in stripping and waxing operations
- notifies school administration of any needed major repairs or equipment failure
- remains vigilant on safety and security issues and notifies school administration of any safety or security issues that arise
- maintains organization and cleanliness of storage, supply and maintenance areas
- maintains a record of inventory and orders supplies as needed and requests re-supply
- responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions
- report emergencies to the Operations Director
- additional duties as assigned
