Job Description

Orchard Park Central School District is a reputable public school district located in West Seneca, New York. The district is committed to providing high-quality education and a safe, supportive environment for students across various grade levels from PreK through 12th grade. Known for its dedication to academic excellence, community involvement, and promoting equal opportunities for all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, or gender identity, the district fosters an inclusive atmosphere where all employees and students can thrive. As an equal opportunity employer, the Orchard Park Central School District actively upholds policies against discrimination and retaliation, ensuring a respectful, fair workplace for all staff members.

The Orchard Park Central School District is currently seeking a dedicated and reliable Custodian for its middle school through the NY HELPS program. This position is a full-time, 12-month civil service appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. The working hours are Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., providing consistency and schedule stability for the successful candidate. The hourly wage for this role is $20.95, as outlined in the OPSRPA Contract, reflecting a competitive compensation package. This custodian position focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning school environment by performing general cleaning duties, building maintenance, and repairs within a PreK-12 setting. Custodians play a vital role in supporting the district's educational mission by ensuring that school facilities are hygienic, orderly, and conducive to learning.

Applicants do not need to take a civil service examination to qualify during the NY HELPS program period but must meet the established minimum qualifications, which include a combination of educational background and relevant experience related to commercial cleaning or building maintenance. Specifically, candidates should have either graduated from high school or possess a high school equivalency diploma along with one year of experience in commercial cleaning or building maintenance related to trades such as carpentry, electrical work, HVAC systems, or plumbing. Alternatively, candidates with five years of applicable experience in similar fields without a diploma or those with an equivalent combination of training and experience as described are also encouraged to apply.

The custodial responsibilities encompass a diverse range of tasks, including thorough cleaning, routine maintenance, and necessary repairs throughout the school district facilities. The importance of this role cannot be overstated, as it contributes directly to the health and safety of students and staff by maintaining a well-kept facility that complies with health and safety standards. This position offers a great opportunity for individuals who take pride in their work, enjoy hands-on tasks, and seek to contribute positively to their local community. Orchard Park Central School District supports its employees through a clear application process, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply by submitting a completed and signed application form, which is available on the district website. The application deadline is June 23, 2026, and applicants can send the forms by mail or deliver them in person to the personnel office at 2240 Southwestern Blvd, West Seneca, NY 14224. For further inquiries, candidates may contact Nanette Wagner, Principal Clerk Typist - Personnel, via phone or email.
