Job Description

The role available is a part-time Custodian position, working Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm with a 30-minute lunch break, and offers a competitive hourly pay rate of $17.75 USD. This role operates under general supervision from the Project Manager and direct daily oversight by the on-site supervisor, with secondary oversight by the Contracts Administrator. It is important to note that this is an essential personnel position, meaning the custodian may be required to remain on-site or report to work during institutional emergencies to maintain facility operations.

The custodian will be responsible for a wide array of cleaning and building maintenance duties focused on both public spaces and work areas, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all facility users. Duties include routine cleaning and disinfecting of restrooms, kitchenettes, break rooms, fitness centers, and childcare areas, maintaining floors through vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing, as well as handling waste disposal and trash recycling. Special attention is given to restroom maintenance that includes descaling showers, toilets, and urinals and restocking supplies.

Physical requirements for the role include standing or walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds when required, and working in various conditions including dusty environments or adverse weather. The custodian must be capable of attending to detailed cleaning tasks such as window blinds, wall surfaces, and overhead areas, and must also be able to use equipment safely and maintain cleaning supplies in an orderly manner.

Job Duties

  • comply with all Agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications
  • comply with uniform dress code and personal hygiene standards
  • clean all assigned areas in accordance with the contract specifications
  • clean and disinfect restrooms and washable surfaces in public areas
  • descale showers, toilet bowls, and urinals
  • keep restrooms supplied with required paper products and soap
  • perform routine glass and mirror cleaning
  • scrub tile and wash walls
  • vacuum area rugs and carpets
  • sweep and mop floors
  • pull trash and recycling and place in proper receptacles
  • dust various surfaces, polish furniture and metal, clean glass tabletops
  • clean and disinfect kitchenettes and break rooms
  • clean and disinfect fitness centers, health centers, and child care centers
  • clean walls, partitions, window blinds, and window sills as required by contract
  • clean corners, crevices, moldings, ledges, door jams, metal strips, and overhead surfaces
  • clean elevators, escalators, and stairwells
  • clean and police building exteriors, garages, and janitor closets
  • keep tools and supplies clean and orderly
  • empty and clean any public ashtrays and urns
  • spot clean, service restrooms, and police trash
  • perform or assist with special restoration work, as required
  • move, arrange, and lift heavy items
