This job opportunity is for the position of Custodian at Chimes, an essential role within their facilities maintenance team. This is a full-time position with set shift hours from 7:30 pm to 4:00 pm and a competitive pay rate of $17.95 per hour. The custodian will be responsible for performing a wide range of cleaning and building maintenance tasks in public and workspace areas, including executive and command areas. The role involves ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of assigned areas in compliance with agency policies and contract specifications.

In this role, the custodian will be engaged in cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, washable surfaces, showers, toilets, and urinals. They will maintain supplies such as paper products and soap and be responsible for routine cleaning of glass, mirrors, floors, walls, and tiles. Other duties include trash removal, dusting, polishing, maintenance of kitchenettes, break rooms, fitness centers, and health centers, among others. The custodian will also clean building exteriors, elevators, escalators, garages, and janitor closets while ensuring that all tools and supplies are kept orderly and clean.

The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and compliance with all safety, environmental, and security protocols. Physical demands include standing or walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, bending, lifting objects up to 50 lbs, and working in potentially dusty or adverse conditions. The custodian must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with the flexibility to adapt to varying schedules including holidays and weekends.

Job Duties

  • descale showers, toilet bowls, and urinals
  • keep restrooms supplied with required paper products and soap

  • vacuum area rugs and carpets
  • sweep and mop floors
  • pull trash and recycling and place in proper receptacles
  • dust various surfaces, polish furniture and metal, clean glass tabletops, and plexiglass
  • clean and disinfect kitchenettes and break rooms
  • clean and disinfect fitness centers, health centers, and child care centers
  • clean walls, partitions, window blinds, and window sills as required by contract
  • clean corners, crevices, moldings, ledges, door jams, metal strips, and overhead surfaces
  • clean elevators and escalators
  • clean and police building exteriors, garages, and janitor closets
  • keep tools and supplies clean and orderly
  • empty and clean any public ashtrays and urns
  • spot clean, service restrooms, and police trash
  • perform or assist with special restoration work, as required
  • move, arrange, and lift heavy items
  • perform emergency cleaning
  • attend work regularly and report on time
  • attend required meetings and in-service training
  • pass and comply with all building and security requirements and procedures
