Job Description

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, located in beautiful Reno, Nevada, represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities have a rich cultural history rooted in living harmoniously with the land, following seasonal cycles, and maintaining small, efficient social groups for survival. Their collective name meaning "The People" reflects their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony honors these traditions while actively supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community through a wide range of programs and services.

As a progressive organization committed to fostering a thriving community, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony seeks highly motivated individuals to join their team. The Custodian Lead Worker position offers an outstanding opportunity for individuals looking to take on a leadership role within a supportive and culturally rich environment. This full-time, onsite role is based in Reno, NV, and comes with a competitive salary range of $19.66 to $24.53 per hour, dependent on experience. Additionally, the organization provides excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, life insurance, and paid time off, making it a compelling package for qualified candidates.

The Custodian Lead Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall upkeep of the Colony's facilities. Reporting to the Director and working within the Public Works Department, the role requires overseeing assigned personnel while engaging in skilled and semi-skilled custodial and maintenance tasks. This hands-on leadership position not only ensures that facilities are sanitary and inviting but also embodies the integrity and problem-solving values that define the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. The Custodian Lead Worker is responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing custodian work activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment for both visitors and staff.

In this position, the successful candidate will perform a variety of duties ranging from custodial services, facilities maintenance, supervising a team, adapting cleaning methods to meet job requirements, and coordinating work requests and projects. The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience, the ability to communicate effectively with team members and the community, and the skill to manage resources efficiently including materials, supplies, and equipment. The role sometimes involves winter maintenance activities such as snow removal, and the operator may be required to operate vehicles and equipment, possibly obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

This position demands a commitment to safety, confidentiality, and excellence in service delivery. Joining the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony team means becoming part of a supportive organization that values cultural traditions while promoting innovation and progress within its community. If you are ready to leverage your custodial and supervisory skills to make a meaningful impact in an environment that blends tradition with modern leadership, this role is an exceptional career opportunity to consider. Apply today to contribute to an organization that prioritizes community wellness and professional growth within a diverse workforce.
