Job Description

UCLA Custodial Services is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across over 12.5 million square feet of state-supported and client-requested facilities throughout the university. The department's scope of service spans a wide variety of areas including general campus locations, specialized environments such as vivariums, recreational facilities, both wet and dry laboratories, and patient care areas. This extensive coverage ensures that UCLA's facilities reflect its commitment to a safe, clean, and welcoming environment conducive to learning, research, and community engagement.

As a leading academic institution, UCLA places a high priority on operational excellence, environmental health, and responsiveness to the diverse needs of its campus population. The custodial team plays a vital role in this mission, functioning seven days a week to provide impeccable custodial care that supports the university's overall objectives. Every area, whether it's a high-traffic public space or a specialized laboratory requiring strict cleanliness protocols, demands meticulous attention to detail and adherence to high standards.

The Custodian Lead role is essential within this framework. As a key member of the custodial department, the Custodian Lead supports the delivery of custodial services by overseeing daily operations spread across the university's extensive facilities. This includes directing and inspecting the work of subordinate custodial staff, coordinating work projects, and ensuring the highest quality of service consistent with UCLA's standards. The position demands not only practical custodial expertise but also strong communication skills and leadership abilities to manage small teams effectively.

In this role, the Custodian Lead is expected to have comprehensive knowledge of custodial equipment and materials, including the proper use of specialized floor care machines such as stripping machines, waxers/buffers, and water pick-ups. Additionally, the lead must be adept in maintaining safety standards, following technical instructions, and addressing customer concerns promptly. This position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed, to maintain uninterrupted custodial services aligned with UCLA's operations.

UCLA offers a competitive pay range for this position, with actual offers reflecting candidates’ experience, skills, education, certifications, and other relevant factors. Benefits begin from day one, supporting a comprehensive compensation package that includes health benefits and other employee-centric offerings. The university values reliable attendance, professional conduct, and dedication to quality service and expects the Custodian Lead to exemplify these qualities consistently.

This opportunity at UCLA is ideal for individuals who have prior custodial experience, possess leadership qualities, and are committed to maintaining a clean and safe environment within a prestigious university setting. The Custodian Lead contributes directly to the campus community's wellbeing by ensuring that facilities are maintained at the highest standards, fostering an environment that supports UCLA's educational, research, and patient care missions.
