Job Description

Texas Woman's University (TWU) is recognized as the nation’s largest university system exclusively focused on women and holds the distinction of being a federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution. Located roughly 30 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, TWU serves approximately 16,433 graduate and undergraduate students across its three campuses in Denton, Dallas, and Houston. The University prides itself on fostering a diverse academic community committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. It consistently ranks among the nation’s top ethnically diverse institutions as noted by U.S. News & World Report in 2022. The institution values a culture of equality, inclusivity, and respect, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a workplace free from discrimination, harassment, and intimidation. TWU offers a supportive environment where academic and professional growth are encouraged through adherence to rigorous university policies and procedures.

The Custodian II position at Texas Woman's University plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall maintenance of university buildings and facilities. This role involves performing manual custodial work, including cleaning, sanitizing, and upkeep of apartments, lounges, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and other shared spaces throughout the campus. Employees in this position are expected to be proficient with various custodial methods, tools, and materials, and to apply accepted procedures effectively. Beyond routine cleaning, the role encompasses additional responsibilities such as stripping, waxing, polishing floors, shampooing carpets, and managing supplies. The Custodian II may also function as a lead worker within the custodial team, facilitating communication between colleagues and supervisors, providing guidance, and coordinating group efforts.

Working under general supervision, Custodian II is entrusted to complete assignments independently while adhering to safety protocols and university standards. Key duties include manual floor cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, restroom maintenance, changing A/C filters in dormitory buildings, and more specialized tasks such as cleaning outside windows on the first floor. The role can involve physical demands like climbing stairs, moving heavy equipment, or working at heights. Additionally, custodians may occasionally assist in setting up special events or moving furniture and report any equipment repairs and damage to property. The position emphasizes the importance of regular attendance during scheduled work hours, adherence to information security and privacy policies, and prompt response to emergency situations within the workplace.

TWU prioritizes the safety and well-being of its employees. The Custodian II must operate in various environments including indoors and outdoors, where exposure to temperature variations, noise, fumes, dust, chemicals, and other hazards may occur. Use of protective equipment conforming to OSHA standards is required where applicable. The University fosters a safe and respectful environment and expects employees to participate actively in maintaining workplace safety, reporting unsafe conditions, and following established safety procedures.

Employment at Texas Woman’s University requires compliance with federal and state regulations including background checks and verification of all academic credentials. Candidates should also be aware of Selective Service registration requirements according to federal law for males aged 18-25. The University offers equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or other protected categories. This full-time Custodian II role is essential in supporting the operational excellence of TWU's campuses by maintaining clean and safe facilities that enhance the student, faculty, and visitor experience.
