The University of Michigan Health System is currently seeking a responsible and dedicated Custodian II to join its Environmental Services department. This is a full-time, regular position based onsite at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The role offers a competitive salary range of $42,473.60 to $44,969.60 annually, and it operates under the collective bargaining agreement of the AFSCME union. The Custodian II position plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the hospital environment. The work schedule for this role is afternoons, Tuesday through Saturday, from 4:00 pm to 12:30 am, providing a structured yet dynamic working environment.

As a Custodian II, the successful candidate will perform a wide range of janitorial and custodial duties that are essential to ensuring that the hospital and its surrounding areas remain sanitized, safe, and welcoming for patients, staff, and visitors. This role demands physical stamina and attention to detail, as custodial duties include operating various cleaning and scrubbing equipment, stripping and waxing floors, maintaining entrance areas, cleaning patient bedside equipment, and managing waste disposal. Job Duties

  • Operate carpet shampooing and upholstery cleaning equipment
  • Operate mechanical cleaning and scrubbing equipment
  • Strip and wax floor surfaces
  • Maintain the entrance area by sweeping, salting, and shoveling snow
  • Clean grounds and surrounding areas by picking up paper or trash
  • Unplug commodes, urinals, and sink drains without dismantling fixtures
  • Wet mop floors and stairways
  • Collect and dispose of soiled linen
  • Operate vacuum cleaning equipment
  • Clean and wax furniture, fixtures, and furnishings
  • Clean mirrors and interior/exterior glass surfaces
  • Clean toilet rooms and fixtures
  • Stock restroom supplies
  • Dust venetian blinds
  • Spot wash walls to remove marks and fingerprints
  • Clean patient bedside equipment
  • Make beds and change linen
  • Collect and transport waste materials
  • Report items in need of repair
  • Sweep and dust floors and stairways
  • Maintain inventory of supplies
  • Open or lock buildings or rooms
  • Turn on and off lights and equipment
  • Replace burnt-out incandescent light bulbs
  • Move and arrange furniture
  • Clean assigned work areas and equipment
