Job Description

Renton Technical College, established over 80 years ago and located on the ancestral lands of the Puget Salish people in Renton, Washington, is a renowned educational institution dedicated to offering high-quality professional-technical education. The college provides a broad range of programs including allied health, trades and industry, culinary arts, business, technology, and automotive training. Alongside these programs, RTC offers comprehensive career pathways and apprenticeships, as well as adult basic education, English as a Second Language, and GED preparation courses designed to support individuals in acquiring foundational skills necessary for academic and career success. Known for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity, RTC embraces learners and staff from various backgrounds and supports them with resources and opportunities tailored to aid their growth and advancement.

Join our team at Renton Technical College as a Custodian I, a full-time classified position working the swing shift from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, Monday through Friday. This role is critical in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors that uphold the college’s standards of operational excellence. Custodians at RTC are vital members of the campus community who contribute not only to the daily maintenance of the facilities but also serve as part of the emergency response team when the college is closed due to inclement weather or other emergencies. Custodial staff report to the Custodial Supervisor and the position is represented by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Classified Union.

The Custodian I will be responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, including maintaining interior and exterior cleanliness, attending to floors, walls, windows, and restrooms, as well as waste management duties such as trash collection and recycling. The role requires physical ability to perform tasks like lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and enduring an eight-hour shift on one’s feet. Additional responsibilities include maintaining food prep and service areas, managing furniture and equipment movement, reporting building maintenance issues, safely removing snow and ice during winter, and ensuring proper lighting through lamp and battery replacement. Effective communication and teamwork skills are essential, as is the ability to establish positive relationships with colleagues, students, and the public.

Renton Technical College offers competitive compensation for this role with a salary range of $45,133 to $62,540 annually, commensurate with experience. The college also provides a comprehensive benefits package and values diversity by offering a workplace where everyone can thrive regardless of their background. The college’s strong commitment to providing an inclusive, drug-free, and safe working environment underscores its dedication to employee well-being and professional growth. Potential candidates are encouraged to apply early as the priority consideration date is May 4, 2026, and the position will remain open until filled. The successful candidate must pass background checks, including verification of credentials and a sexual misconduct disclosure to ensure the suitability for working in an educational setting.
