Job Description

The University of Oklahoma, located in Norman, is a renowned educational institution committed to providing a safe and clean environment across its campus facilities. Recognized for its vibrant campus life that hosts a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff, the university continuously strives to maintain high standards of campus operations and safety, ensuring that all buildings and residential communities are welcoming and hygienic spaces for everyone.

As a part of the campus operations team, this role falls under service and maintenance, focusing primarily on the cleanliness and upkeep of office spaces and public access areas within the university's residential communities. This is a crucial part of the university's commitment to maintaining an environment conducive to learning and living.

The position offers a targeted hourly wage starting at $13.75, reflecting experience, and is structured as a full-time weekday commitment with working hours from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. However, the job also requires flexibility as employees may be scheduled for irregular hours and overtime to address emergencies, inclement weather, or other urgent situations. In such cases, this role might be classified as essential, necessitating the employee’s presence on campus, sometimes overnight, to sustain cleanliness and campus operations. The role includes rotating weekend shifts as part of the work schedule.

The primary responsibilities encompass routine cleaning duties such as mopping, sweeping, waxing, and polishing floors; dusting and cleaning furniture and equipment; locking and unlocking offices and conference areas; waste collection and disposal; and vacuuming carpeted areas. Maintaining lavatories and restrooms at a sanitary standard forms an integral part of the daily duties, reinforcing the university’s focus on health and sanitation. Additionally, employees may be tasked with minor snow removal duties such as shoveling sidewalks and doorways during inclement winter weather.

Beyond regular cleaning, the position entails specialized make-ready services that include deep cleaning residential bathrooms, kitchens, and living areas. Tasks such as cleaning inside appliances like refrigerators and ovens, replacing shower curtains, removing stubborn spills and grease, thoroughly sanitizing surfaces, and detailed cleaning of ceiling fans, vents, windows, and floors are essential for preparing residential spaces for new occupants. Cleaning mattresses, carpet care including spot cleaning and shampooing, stain treatment of furniture, and furniture arrangement are also part of the comprehensive service scope.

The university values safety highly; thus, all hires are contingent upon a background check and driver’s license verification, considering the necessity to possibly drive university vehicles. Moreover, the role requires passing Post Offer Employment Testing (POET), underlining the importance of safety and reliability in campus maintenance functions.

This role is tailored for individuals who are attentive to detail, capable of performing physical cleaning tasks, and willing to respond to irregular scheduling demands while supporting the university’s commitment to an outstanding campus environment. Joining the University of Oklahoma’s campus operations team offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to the collegiate atmosphere by ensuring clean, safe, and hygienic living and learning spaces for the entire community, all while enjoying competitive pay, benefits, and a stable work schedule with opportunities to provide essential service during critical times.
