Job Description

Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization and development of affordable housing and community services within San Francisco's Tenderloin district. Established with a mission to combat homelessness and improve the quality of life for low-income residents, TNDC manages multiple properties and provides various supportive programs that empower individuals and families to achieve stability and success. Through their comprehensive approach, TNDC ensures safe, clean, and well-maintained living environments while fostering community engagement and development. Their commitment extends beyond property management to encompass resident advocacy, social services, and neighborhood improvements, making them a cornerstone in San Francisco's effort to create sustainable urban neighborhoods.

The Custodian role at TNDC is a full-time, hourly position located at 217 Eddy Street, San Francisco, CA, with a pay rate of $23 per hour. The schedule for this role is Saturday through Wednesday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, offering a stable workweek that supports work-life balance. This position plays a crucial part in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of TNDC properties by performing housekeeping duties inside and outside buildings to uphold a healthy and pleasant environment for all residents. The custodian is responsible for routine cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, window washing, trash removal, and vacuuming, in addition to supporting maintenance efforts through light repairs like patching and painting walls.

Beyond daily cleaning, the custodian is involved in safety monitoring and reporting, ensuring compliance with TNDC's policies, and participating in meetings to stay updated with organizational standards. This role requires an individual who is dependable, proactive, and capable of working independently while demonstrating sensitivity and respect towards the diverse, low-income population that TNDC serves. Physical stamina is essential, as the job includes medium to heavy work such as lifting up to 75 pounds and operating various cleaning equipment. The custodian must also be adaptable, handling emergencies through an on-call schedule and assisting maintenance staff with additional projects as needed.

In essence, the custodian provides vital support that directly influences the quality of living for thousands within the Tenderloin community. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause, work within a dynamic team environment, and utilize practical skills in a community-centered nonprofit. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, good judgment, excellent interpersonal abilities, and a willingness to uphold high standards of cleanliness and safety. TNDC's commitment to equity is reflected in their equal opportunity employment policy and fair consideration of all applicants, including those with criminal histories, in compliance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance. By joining TNDC as a custodian, you become an integral part of a long-standing effort to improve housing and lives in one of San Francisco's most vibrant neighborhoods.
